Dr. Jo Ness is an expert on jellyfish and is writing a book on them, which is co-authored by her late friend, Aldo. She gets a call from her old college best friend, Nadia, who is living on a small island off of Maine, where there is a huge jellyfish, which appears every full moon. She drops everything, flies to the island, finds Nadia missing, and all the island people are being weird. They warn her off to leave, but she doesn’t. She sees the jellyfish, and soon learns a shocking secret; it changes everyone who sees it. The jellyfish is named Clementine, and has powers and Jo, along with the locals, have to try and figure out how to get rid of her before it’s too late for the island and the people that live on it. This debut novel is intense, well-written, and a great nod to see monsters, past and present. This is one you will not want to put down. A perfect summer novel.
