Ted and Jill Westcott are married and live in a nice brownstone, and have a good amount of money, at least they did, until they got overextended, and Ted lost a lot of money in a bad investment. They ask Ted’s rich brother Greg for a loan, and he turns them down. Ted is the sole beneficiary of Greg’s estate should he die, and they decide to kill him. While out on Greg’s boat, he falls overboard and is dead. With no witnesses and a well-rehearsed account of what happened, they should be on easy street. They get through all the questions, and it is declared an accident, but not everyone believes it. Someone is on to them, they start receiving text messages, find hidden cameras in their house, and have to decide how to proceed when the blackmailer makes his demands. Ted and Jill start to suspect everyone around them, and they will kill again if it means protecting themselves. This is author Lapena’s tenth novel, and it’s another good one. Filled with tension, false flags, and a surprising ending, this one is another good summer beach read.
