The year is 1902 and Daisy Harriman is tired of women not having equal rights with men. She’s married, rich and in society and decides to do something about it. She wants to build a women’s only club, much like men have. Enlighting all her friends, they find a spot, get a loan and decide to call it The Colony Club. Daisy is even able to get one of the top architects in New York, Stanford White to design the building. Elsie de Wolfe, is an actress, fed up with the lifestyle of getting bad parts, who has a flare for designing and is brought in to design the interior. Nora Bromley has always wanted to be an architect and has gone to school for it. She gets a job at White’s company and gets assigned to help out at The Colony Club. This is their story on how the building went up, after many years, how it was designed and even a scandal after Stanford was murdered. All through it these women stood together and did what no one else ever did. This is a great historical fiction novel, based on real-life events. I had never known about these people or this club, and now I do. Historical fiction novels are the best and author Noble has written a good one.
