Temperance Brennan has a rare weekend off, with it being Memorial Day, and her longtime Canadian boyfriend Ryan, is flying down so they can spend it together. That is until she gets a call from D.C., there’s been a tragic fire, and four people are dead, and her help is really needed. She cancels on Ryan and drives there, to help examine the bodies, which are easy to identify, it’s a fifth body she finds in a subcellar, that she can’t identify. She extends her stay, pissing off Ryan, and goes to work to try and find out about this body, which is a female, and old, to figure out just what happened to her. She is working with the cops, they figure out who is responsible for the fire, and another one, and their lives are in danger. And then a twist about who is also responsible for murders, once again puts Brennan’s life in danger. This is the 23rd book in the series, and it’s another stellar one. Long-time fans of the series will enjoy it.
