Best in Arts & Entertainment 2020: Dreams (Video Game)

16. Dreams (Video Game, PS4)

The potential of this game is truly unlike anything I’ve seen before. Design as a universe of gaming that the gamers can design, ‘Dreams’ gives you two options. You can go Dream Surfing or you can try Dream Shaping. Dream Surfing allows the player to tackle one of thousands of worlds that have been created by other dreamers like themselves. Dream Shaping is where you shape one of those worlds for other dreamers to play. This is not a foreign concept, but how far they take it is astonishing.

If you want to craft a complete remake of the original ‘Super Mario Bros.’ then that is easily within your reach. If you want to make a first person shooter, puzzle solver, platformer, survival horror, or anything in between, the tools are here for you to play with. It is a one stop shop for you create whatever game you’ve had in your head all these years, but had no idea how to get it made.

On the flip side, if you have no interest in making games whatsoever, there is a massive community of thousands that have created games for you to play in. It’s an infinite gaming community unlike has ever been created and we have only seen the tip of the iceberg. There will be brilliant gamers and storytellers carrying out their visions in ‘Dreams’ for years to come. I can’t wait to see how far it goes.
