In the last 20 years, the Deftones have shaped the hard rock genre into their own mold and carved out a sound unlike any other band. During the 90’s, they might have just felt like another of the rap metal groups just grabbing for spotlight, but now they stand outside that zone. There is not a single song on their new album that doesn’t land. And songs like ‘Urantia’ and ‘The Link is Dead’ stand toe to toe with any of their best hits over the last 3 decades. Which makes this their best work since ‘Diamond Eyes’.
