Two sisters, Danielle and Grace, return to South Africa, where their mother lived and ran an animal conservation. She died months ago, and they have inherited her house and lands. It’s the first time being back there in years. There’s also tension between the sisters, and a shocking secret. They have hired a guide and have some other people along for the two-day trip to get to the house. Before they leave, each sister has gotten a note from their late mother, and Danielle’s tells her to do something that she doesn’t understand. On the way there, one of their members is murdered, their car is destroyed, and they have to continue on foot, with someone following them and trying to kill them, and wild animals all around. When they finally get to the house, they learn about a shocking betrayal, and what their mother was trying to hide. This is an intense thriller that may make you double-think about going on an African safari. The characters, the setting and the twists all work great here. A perfect summer novel.
