Book Review: ‘Jasmine And Jake Rock The Boat: A Novel’ By Sonya Lalli

Jasmine Randhawa broke up with her longtime boyfriend Brian, lives across the hall from him, shares custody of their dog, and is the black sheep daughter of her Punjabi family. When she’s told she needs to take two weeks vacation, her parents tell her to go on the Alaskan cruise they’re going on, as rates are really low. She goes just to spite them, as she wasn’t invited at first. She can barely afford it, but goes anyway, knowing her big extended family will be there. When she gets there, she finds out it’s a senior cruise. Then she sees Jake Dhillon, who she babysat for when he was younger (and who is fives years younger than she is). They do not hit it off at first. She thinks he’s a douchebag. As the two of them spend time together, she lets her defenses down, and finds out he’s not that bad. They grow close, and it seems like they might become a couple, but Jasmine needs to reach inside herself, let go of past issues, and move forward from them. A really fun rom-com, that hits all the right notes. With all the aunties aboard, some LOL moments, and two people you root for to be together.

You can pick up Jasmine And Jake Rock The Boat in stores on Tuesday, April 18th from Berkley.
