Author Paige Shelton is back with the follow-up to her first Alaska Wild book titled Thin Ice. It’s a really good second novel that continues the story of Beth Rivers, who is still on the run and hiding out in Benedict, Alaska. There’s good character development, furthering of the story of her kidnapping and a solid murder mystery.

Beth is getting comfortable in her new home and is in contact with the police about what happened to her. At her job working on the newspaper she hears a knock on the door. It’s two little girls who don’t talk. When Chief Gril Samuels arrives he tells Beth about a frozen body of a female that was found. They’re not sure it has anything to do with the little girls. Beth is allowed to help with the investigation and soon a mysterious figure is seen in the woods. It also throws suspicion on Randy the owner of the local mercantile. And while this is going on Beth receives information about the man that kidnapped her and she is hiding from. Both cases relate to the past and answer some questions but open up others.

You can pick up Cold Wind in stores on Tuesday, December 8th from Minotaur Books.
