Wolfwalkers (Movie, Apple TV+)
This wonderfully hand drawn piece of animation is as radiant in its colors as its villain is ravenous in execution. At a certain point, I was actually worried that my little girl shouldn’t be watching this difficult story. But I’m glad I let her stick through it. There is an unforgettable tale of love and redemption here, but it’s so important that we remember what rule by corporal punishment looks like. Many still live the fear of being put in a cage for not following the orders of the state. And as we see in this fantastic film, the rules of the state are sometimes plain wrong. That may seem deep for a kids film, but it makes the smiles feel that much more earned.
