The year is 1962 and Beverly Diamond, who comes from a political family, is married to Larry, who is the campaign manager for the current senator from Maryland. They have two young children, and a house, and she’s the attentive wife. On this day, she goes to his office with cookies and finds him in a compromising situation with his secretary. She kicks him out, goes on a shopping spree, cuts her hair and declares her independence and decides to get a job. What does she know best, politics, and gets a job with Michael Landau, who’s also running for the senate seat. He’s way behind in the polls and doesn’t seem like there’s a chance he can win, with Beverly by his side, he is making progress. It’s a battle of two candidates, two spouses, and even possibly a new love interest for Beverly. This book is great. It’s well-written, has a strong female character, and is just fun to read. A book you can enjoy by the pool or at the lake.
