Annie Brown is married to Bill, and they have four children. It’s time for dinner, the meatloaf is on the table, the potatoes are almost done, and Annie asks Bill for some Advil for the headache she has, then collapses, and dies right there on the floor. We follow the family and friends over the next year, and how they cope with the loss of Annie, who was the glue that held everything, and everyone together. From Bill having an affair, to her best friend Annemarie falling back into drugs, the person that may be the one to save everyone in barely a teenager, but has to act like an adult. This is a fantastic novel, which looks at the sudden effects of loss. The characters and story are well-written, and you feel and grieve right along with the family.
