90 years ago, Cecily Larson, who was four at the time, was dropped off at an orphanage by her mother, who told her she would come back for her. When she turned seven she was sold to a traveling circus, to be used as a little sister, as part of a horse act. Cecily finally felt like she has a family, and spent many years with them traveling the country. When at age fifteen, she falls in love with a young black man named Lucky, her whole life changes. Now at age 94, living alone in the house she has for 50 years, she breaks her hip, and ends up in the hospital. She has a daughter, granddaughter, and great-grandson, who has a DNA project for school, and once the results come in, they’re shocking to everyone. Cecily has led quite the life, and has lots of shocking secrets, that she has never revealed. Now she must come clean to her family, and via flashbacks we follow along with them. She has led a crazy life, not always good, but has kept a strong spirit to survive. This is a great character driven novel, that you will want to keep reading along. It’s a beautiful book, and will be one of the best of the year.
