Review by Monique Thompson
Summoned to a secluded research facility, a controversial young doctor examines a cosmonaut who returned to Earth with an alien parasite inside of him.
SPUTNIK is one of those sci-fi thrillers that is surprisingly good! After almost losing her medical license, Tatiana (Oksana Akinshina) gets recruited by the military to a secure science research facility. She is assigned to a very special case, the case of Konstantin Sergeyevich (Pyotr Fyodorov). After surviving a mysterious space accident, Konstantin returns to Earth but with something living inside of him that only shows itself at night when it’s time to play. When Tatiana learns of the military’s plan, she wants to stop it and save Konstantin from being killed.
SPUTNIK takes a stab at a sci-fi/horror/thriller and delivers it well. While there’s nothing necessarily unique or different with the plot, but there’s plenty of suspense and the right amount of blood and gore to go around. The effects are decently done and makes for the perfect horror feel. Tatiana is a no non-sense type of character and is a great protagonist.
SPUTNIK is easy to watch and engaging so don’t let the fact that it’s a Russian film steer you away. This is a very decent thriller and surely worth the watch.
