Her first assignment is to break up Chase and his girlfriend. Chase is in one of her classes and they have a combative relationship, always trying to get better grades than the other. And it works she breaks them up but Chase becomes interested in her.

The longer Ember is part of the group, the harder it is for her to keep doing these horrible things. She starts to lose herself and isn’t getting any closer to figuring out who the the leader, The Queen of Hearts is. She starts to get little clues on other members and workings of the court.

When someone requests something to happen to Gideon, her best friend, Ember must be the one to do it. But Ember doesn’t want to hurt her friend and when she finally gets the info she needs she can put her final plan in motion. Then a shocking reveal changes everything and will Ember be able to finish what she started?

A solid thriller with a strongly written lead character in Ember, who you feel for in her quest. The story has some twists and turns you don’t see coming and it’s a solid start to the fall book season.
