Directed by Harry Mavromichalis, the film is an intimate fly on the wall verité documentary that follows a working class professional, a scholar actor of intense intuitive power, and a woman beloved around the world. Here we see Olympia Dukakis’s life come full circle both personally and professionally, as she takes on the roles of actor, teacher, wife, mother, and social activist. Starting on the day she turns eighty and continuing for three years, this film deals with the struggles and pains surrounding identity and the roles placed on us by society. Exhibiting both candor and vulnerability, we see her deal with age, grief and sexuality while opening up about her past struggles with depression, suicide and drug addiction.
The film also features interviews with Whoopi Goldberg, Laura Linney, Diane Ladd, Lynn Cohen, Lainie Kazan, Austin Pendleton, Ed Asner, Armistead Maupin and Michael Dukakis.
