We are officially one week out from SXSW Online 2021, the film festival runs from March 16th – 20th. Much like last year SXSW will be a completely online event due to the ongoing pandemic but the show includes 75 features, including 57 world premieres, 3 international premieres, and more for your enjoyment.
On Wednesday, March 17th at 11am “I’m Fine (Thanks for Asking)” will be making its world premiere at SXSW Online 2021. At the height of the pandemic hairdresser Danny is struggling like never before. Recently widowed, and houseless, Danny is shielding her 8-year-old daughter Wes from the truth by pretending they are on an extended camping trip. After weeks in the Southern California heat Wes finally gets the news she has longed for when Danny promises her that they will go home by the end of the day. With clients lined up and an apartment on hold all Danny needs is for the day to go as planned, but a series of mishaps threatens to derail her plans. It will take plenty of determination, hussle, and sacrifice for Danny to get the money she needs in order to keep her promise to Wes.
I had the pleasure of speaking with Kelley Kali (Lalo’s House) who produced, executive produced, co-wrote, co-directed, and starred in the film, along with her co producer/executive producer Deon Cole (Black-ish). You can listen below and make sure to check out “I’m Fine (Thanks for Asking)” if you are registered for SXSW Online 2021 and you can come back to Red Carpet Crash next week for my review of this film that promises to be a festival hit.
