Review by Caitlin Zeigler

Mrs. Reyes (Laurie Holden) and her daughter Leah (Nicole Muñoz) are coping differently over the loss of their husband/father. Mrs. Reyes has mood swings and can’t deal with living in the same house anymore. She decides they need a fresh start and decides to move into a new house two hours away. Leah dealt with the loss by becoming a Goth. She also deals with things by hanging out with her friends, Janice (Chloe Rose), Aaron (Eric Osborne) and Rob (Romeo Carere), who are also Goth. So, when her mom decides they need to move and Leah needs to change schools within a year, it angers Leah. Instead of dealing with her problems and anger, Leah starts feeling like everything her mom does angers her. After Leah has had enough, she decides to summon a witch to kill her mom.

Leah tells her friends, but they’re skeptical at first. After Janice is attacked after spending the night at Leah’s, Leah realizes she needs to find a way to stop the witch. If she doesn’t hurry up, Pyewacket (Bianca Melchior) will give her exactly what she’s asked for and then some. This film is a decent horror movie. Some people may find it boring and dragged out because the full story comes out at the end. We see it progress and then we know all of the details at the end. What makes it decent is that it does have kind of scary moments and it hits with be careful what you wish for. Leah doesn’t get to fix things and make it right. This is not a horror story with a hero that perseveres and everyone is alright in the end.
