‘Warner Bros. Home Entertainment provided me with a free copy of the Blu-ray I reviewed in the blog post. The opinions I share are my own.’
Freedom Fighters: The Ray was developed by the team of Greg Berlanti and Marc Guggenheim, who do most if not all of the DC shows on The CW. The story is set in part of the current Arrowverse world as well as the parallel world of Earth-X.
Ray Terrill (voiced by Russell Tovey) has always wanted to make a difference in his life. He wants to live up to his older brother, a marine who was killed in Afghanistan. Ray one day stumbles over a man that looks just like him. And the reason is because he’s Earth-X’s version of himself. He is dying and gives Ray of this earth his powers (photokinetic energy). Now he is a superhero known as The Ray. It’s not all that it seems to be though. Having powers and being a SuperHero takes a lot of work mentally and physically. The bad guys are closing in led by Overgirl/Kara (Melissa Benoist). Ray also has a secret he is hiding. He’s gay and hasn’t been able to tell his parents yet. This ways on his mind as well. Having to to deal with his sexuality and his new powers and battling to save earth/earth-x is a battle he’s determined to win.
The Blu-ray/DVD set is the first two seasons all together as a movie. Each episode wasn’t that long and they air on CW Seed. A good animated addition to the current DC universe of shows now airing. You can pick it up in stores on Tuesday, August 28th.
