Review by Monique Thompson
BREAKTHROUGH is based on the inspirational true story of one mother’s unfaltering love in the face of impossible odds. When Joyce Smith’s adopted son John falls through an icy Missouri lake, all hope seems lost. But as John lies lifeless, Joyce refuses to give up. Her steadfast belief inspires those around her to continue to pray for John’s recovery, even in the face of every case history and scientific prediction. From producer DeVon Franklin (Miracles from Heaven) and adapted for the screen by Grant Nieporte (Seven Pounds) from Joyce Smith’s own book, BREAKTHROUGH is an enthralling reminder that faith and love can create a mountain of hope, and sometimes even a miracle.
BREAKTHROUGH is a faith-based film that is sure to warm the hearts of all believers, and possibly some of the skeptics. The moving true story of Joyce Smith’s inspirational experience will likely restore faith and is the perfect film to be released around Easter.
A quick Google search can provide the background story of Joyce and John’s miraculous testimony. Joyce’s unwavering faith, as exhibited in the film, will surely appeal to the faith-based community and rightfully so.
After her adopted so John falls through ice and is later clinically pronounced dead, Joyce maintains that John will FULLY recover and remains steadfast in her faith in God and His promise. Chrissy Metz is such a joy to watch on screen as she morphs into the suburban mom role as Joyce.
BREAKTHROUGH is onr of those films that is so needed right now. The story is not only moving but very uplifting and is prefect for the entire family to experience.
