As we approach the time of year when most of the Oscar nominated movies come out lets take a look at where the major nominations might go.
For best movie: The top contenders as of now look to be Judy, A Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood, Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, Joker, Jojo Rabbit, The Irishman and the Little Woman remake. Of course there are always sleeper smaller movies that could make the list. Until everything is released we won’t have a solid idea until December (and by that time the Golden Globe nominations will have been released).
For Best actor: Tom Hanks for A Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood, Joaquin Phoenix for Joker, both Robert De Niro and Al Pacino for The Irishman, Ian McKellan for Just Mercy are names that have been mentioned as possible nominees.
For Best Actress: The strong front-runner right now is Renee Zellweger as Judy Garland in Judy, Jennifer Lopez for Hustlers, Meryl Streep for Little Women, Helen Mirren for Just Mercy, Saoirse Ronan for Little Women and Alfre Woodward for Clemency.
No matter who is nominated it will get people talking about not only who was nominated but who wasn’t. So before it´s release, Joker has been receiving very good critics to the point that sites such as SBD have Joker listed for their early list of 2020 Academy Awards Best Picture as a top 3 contender with Odds at +550.
