“Warner Bros. Home Entertainment provided me with a free copy of the Blu-ray I reviewed in this Blog Post. The opinions I share are my own.
First there was The Big Bang Theory and then 10 years later Jim Parsons (Sheldon) came up with an idea to do Young Sheldon and brought it to the producers of the show. And then next thing you know Young Sheldon is on the air. It premiered on a special Monday showing and two days later CBS picked it up for a full season and renewed it as well for a second season.
The story is set with Sheldon (Iain Armitage) as a nine year old boy who is living with his family in East Texas. He is a gifted child and often annoys everyone around him. He is so smart he’s in high school already and trying to get along with the actual high school students. It’s not easy for him because he is so smart and hasn’t been around a lot of people. We meet and see the things his family goes through and how it shapes him for his future (which we see on Big Bang).
We also meet his family his mom Mary (Zoe Perry) played by the real life daughter of Laurie Metcalfe, who plays Sheldon’s mom on Big Bang. His dad George (Lance Barber), George Cooper Jr. (Montana Jordan), Missy (Raegan Revord), Meemaw (played by Annie Potts) and Parsons himself does voiceovers.
The show being set many years before Big Bang is shot and looks different in its presentation. I personally didn’t find it as compelling as Big Bang but then again I didn’t like the early seasons of that show either but then I became addicted. I hope the same happens with this show.
You can pick it up on Blu-ray and DVD on Tuesday, September 4th.
