Alice Cooper has had a rough few months and decides a trip to Scotland and a 3-week tour on a bus will be just the thing to cheer her up. Things start out bad, her flight is delayed and it takes her a long time to get to there. Then her suitcase is missing and found all torn up, then a man at the airport is rude to her, and then it turns out that the man, Robbie Brodie, is the owner, driver and tour guide on her tour. It also turns out the bus is old and the other tourists on the trip are all old ladies. As the trip progresses, Alice and Robbie spar, she grows close to her fellow travelers and things with Robbie turn romantic and they fall in love. When the tour ends, Alice is determined to go back to the states and figure out her life, breaking Robbie’s heart and her own, until she finally figures out what she wants. This is the debut novel from author Mackenzie and it’s a good one. The story, the setting the characters, especially the older supporting cast of women, make this the first great rom-com of the new year.
