Rachael Beckett is a British glaciologist and agrees to take a job going to Antarctica to survey the ice shelves. It means leaving her daughter and husband in England. After she and the crew arrive she’s separated from them, with no way to find them. She is now trapped in a hut with little supplies and no way to contact home. She does have an emergency radio which is saying the nuclear war has broken out and she thinks she may be the only one left in the world. She continues her research, hallucinates she’s talking to her loved ones and she may not be alone. This is an intense psychological thriller that hits all the right notes. It starts off fast and never lets up. This is one you will not want to put down. A good debut novel from author Burnett.
