Daphne, who is 53, is spending the day with her husband, Jonathan, who is a few years older than her, when he spots a man watching them. It turns out to be her ex-stepfather, Eddie Triplett, who was briefly married to Daphne’s mother, the second of her three husbands. Daphne and her sister really loved him, and were sad when it ended, after a car accident with Eddie, and she hasn’t talked to him in years. Weeks after they reconnect, she learns the real reason they broke up, and she looks back on her life and that time, and visits the site of the accident when she was nine, and the story Eddie told her about a girl and a horse, and looks back on her life. This is a well-written, character-driven novel that hooks you from the beginning. It’s a page-turning novel that you will not want to put down.
