Author L. Penelope is back with book two in her Earthsingers Chronicle’s series. The story takes place a few years after the first book. Jack is in hiding and the mantle between Elsira (where the Queen is still asleep) and Lagimar (where The True Father rules) and war is about to take place. The True Father has been rounding out people with song and his power is getting very strong.
Kyara aka the Poison Flame is sent on a mission to find the Shadowfox for the Father. He is one of the most powerful people in the land and can further cement The Father’s power for the upcoming war. She is being controlled by him even though she doesn’t always like what she has to do.
Darvy is one of the most powerful Earthsingers and he works with the Keepers to try and protect the kids and people with songs. Soon he and Kyara are on a collusion course with each other. Soon they end up saving each other and realize they need each other and have to unite against all odds. Both their lives are in danger and without the other neither may make it. And it all leads to a shocking climax where everything will change forever.
This second book is as good as the first one. A magical world full of excitement, great characters and a story that starts off strong and never lets up. Not sure how many more books are coming in the series but I am all in for more.
