The year is 1816, in London, and Sebastian St. Cyr is at home when his newphew, Bayard, arrives at his house and announces that his friend, Marcus Toole, is dead, he has been burned to death. The two of them were hanging out, but drunk, and when he left to go to the bathroom, he came back to find his friend burned to death. This is the second death among Bayard and his group of five friends, and he is worried for his own life. Then another of the group is found dead, and soon Bayard is killed. Sebastian is on the case, thinking it has something to do with a radical political movement, or revenge for the things the group has been doing, bullying people in bars, and attacking women. He teams up with Lovejoy, who is working the case, and soon Sebastian finds the proof he needs as to determine who the killer or killers may be, and has to race against time to stop anymore killings from taking place. This is the 21st novel in the series, and it’s another good one. This is one of favorite series every year, with Sebastian and his wife, Hero, as two of my favorite characters. Long-time fans will enjoy this one.
