Olive is in her senior year of high school and suffers the usual teen angst. She broke up with Tyler over a year ago because she didn’t think they had much going for them future-wise. He didn’t know what he wanted to do after he graduated. She has always had her life planned out. Then she met senior Jack Cameron, and now they’re an item, except he’s in Hawaii at college and has been ghosting her lately. She decides to go there to visit him a week earlier than she planned. When she gets on the plane, she is seated next to an older woman, who has the window seat, and to her surprise, Tyler, is in the aisle seat next to her. It becomes uncomfortable, and they soon rehash what happened to them and try to part as friends. When she gets to Jack’s dorm, Olive is in for a surprise, and calls Tyler, who takes her to his brother’s house, and they spend a great day together, before her flight leaves a day later. She knows Tyler is still in love with her, and she starts to think maybe she made a big mistake dumping him, and maybe he is the one after all or is he? A solid debut nove that shows how teenage love and life can be complicated. These two lead characters are fun, and you root for them to be together. Beware, the food and drinks in Hawaii that are described in the novel will make you hungry. Fans of young adult romance will enjoy this one.
