Three different time periods collide in the debut of author Kevin C. Morris. In 1938, Joe Baxter is working in the gold mines of Alaska and running a scam. He, along with two others are skimming off the top and has a secret bank account that will be split three ways, except he is also skimming off his partners. In 1982, Anya Baron and her husband live on a boat and own a small island, Radioville. She has to put up with drinking and physical abuse until she snaps and kills him. In 2017, Marco is still dealing with the loss of his wife, and is on his boat traversing the waters of Alaska. When he hears a woman’s distress call one night, he gets worried and starts looking for her, and it takes him to Radioville Island. We follow along on all three timelines, learn shocking secrets, and see how they all come together in the climactic finale of the novel. A solid novel, with interesting characters, twists and turns, a awesome musical playlist in 1982, and a somewhat lackluster ending. Still, it’s a good Labor Day mystery read.
