The year is 1931 and the setting is Trouble Island, off of Canada, and about 10 miles from Ohio, over the Canadian border, where alcohol is legal. Aurelia comes to the island, after escaping something shocking she did, to be the friend to the owner of the island, Rosita, and then her maid, who is married to a mob guy named Eddie, who has been gone for over a year. She’s grieving for her son, who was killed in a shootout he shouldn’t have been at. Eddie shows up with a group of people, determined to get the island away from Rosita, in exchange for a divorce, which she refuses. When Aurelia is ready to run away, she finds the dead body of Rosita in the water, and everyone becomes a suspect, on this cut-off island, where other murders start taking place. Aurelia decides she’s going to find out which person is the murderer, learns shocking information about the other guests and as secrets are revealed, not all is as it seems and just who survives this island will be the question. A wicked good, intense novel that hits all the right notes. This is one you will want to keep reading with all its shocking twists and turns.
