The debut novel from author Natalie Daniels is a psychological battle between two women who want control. Connie is in a institution for a crime she doesn’t remember. She has a form of amnesia and Emma is assigned to work with her. She meets with her but isn’t having too much luck. Connie may not remember much but she’s sharp when it comes to matching wits with Emma and on some occasions turning the tables on her. The more they meet the stranger things get between them. Connie is slowly remembering things and has some memories back but doesn’t confess that she does.
Emma and Connie seem to know each other and can push each others buttons and get each to admit things. We learn the back story of Connie and we follow Emma through work and her marriage (which isn’t that great and her secret). Soon things come out and these two women will need each other to get through everything.
A well-written story told from the point of view of the two characters that are flawed and depending on each other. You really feel for both characters and hope that things will work out for them in the end.
You can pick up Too Close in stores on Tuesday, July 30 from Harper.
