Jack Ryan Jr. is in Georgetown, Guyana, working on a legit job for Henley & Associates. He’s trying to get a permit for their new oil fields, for the Athena Shiping Company, he recently acquired. Jack is thrown into chaos when he’s having lunch with the minister and attorney general when gunmen kill the two and Jack barely escapes. There’s corruption in the government and a drug gang working with the Russians to take over the oil fields and the government. Meanwhile, Ding Chavez is working undercover with the drug gang until his cover is blown. He’s able to get an emergency message to John Clark and the campus puts together a plan to save him. Jack meanwhile is trying to save his own life, as well as that of the family of the minister that was killed. It reaches a climatic showdown on the waters outside Guyana. Another action-filled novel in the series complete with shootouts, betrayals and killer jet skis. Author M.P. Woodward has done Tom Clancy proud with his second novel in this series. Longtime fans will enjoy this one.
