Gail Barnes is 61, divorced, works as an assistant headmistress and her daughter, Debbie, is getting married tomorrow. On this day things start going downhill fast. She’s passed over for a promotion and quits her job. Her ex-husband, Max, shows up at her house, needing to stay with her because he has a cat. He was going to stay with Debbie, but her soon-to-be husband, Kenneth, is allergic to cats. Then Debbie tells them she may cancel the wedding because Kenneth cheated on her when she was out of town, which he denies and the wedding takes place. On day three while hanging out with Max, she thinks back to their life together and what happened to break them up, gets a new job offer and maybe even getting Max back. This is another great character-driven novel from author Tyler, who excels at these books. You get emotionally invested in this story and these characters and even the cat. At 176 pages it’s an easy, quick book to read.
