Author Paige Shelton is back with the start to a new series featuring the character of Beth Rivers and is set in a small Alaska town. It’s a decent start to the series. The character of Beth is intriguing and has a lot of potential in future stores and the way the book ends opens up for the next book and future books in the series. Their are interesting characters in this small town and no major twists and turns, just a solid murder mystery.

Beth Rivers aka author Elizabeth Fairchild is on the run after being kidnapped for a few days before escaping out of the back of a van. She sustained injuries and can’t remember everything that happened to her. She remembers it was Levy Brooks that took her. She left the hospital and is on the run now to a small Alaska town until Levi can be captured. She hopes the has covered her tracks and hardly anyone knows where she is.

This small town has interesting people that seem to have their own secrets and she ends up with a room in a halfway house. A woman is found dead in one of the cabins and it’s ruled a suicide. Beth thinks it was murder and is helping out the local police chief and is taking over the town newspaper. Beth is still on edge and every little thing sets her off. Soon she helps solve the suicide/murder and her memories are coming back to her. She has a shocking memory return, which will help set up the next novel.

You can pick up Thin Ice in stores on Tuesday, December 3rd from Minotaur Books.
