The year is 1937 and the King has given up his throne for the woman he loves, Wallis Simpson, and they’re banished to France. Wallis has dreams of one day having her husband return to the throne, and becoming Queen. She tries to keep him in the spotlight, even when they’re shunned (especially her) by society, and the people. Wallis hires her cousin Amelia to be her personal secretary, Amelia soon learns Wallis is not that nice, outspoken, and a mission. The couple is hanging out with Germans, and are supportive of Hitler. Once the war starts, the couple must flee France, and Amelia is caught in the crossfire. She’s soon enlisted by the British and American governments to spy on the couple in the Bahamas and finds her live in jeopardy. This is a wonderful historical fiction novel, that looks at the couple, and especially Wallis, and her push for power, fame and to be accepted. Fans of this kind of novel will be enthralled with this story, and how she just wanted to be accepted.
