Kasey Nottingham lives in D.C. and has a job she hates. She’s still trying to find herself at 26. At a pitch meeting for her job, she suggests buying her grandmother’s company, Mags’ Deserts, which owns it with her lover Celia, based in her hometown of Winston-Salem, not having asked if she’s interested in selling. Kasey knows they won’t sell and she’s sent there to ask them about selling and has to come up with a plan to stall her bosses. While there she also sees Jackson, a man she has been in love with for years. Everybody questions her, knowing she has to have a reason to be in town. When Kasey starts snooping, some things don’t add up and she thinks they’re using the pies to help kill bad men in town. She confesses this to Jackson and they snoop together. They also start spending time together and soon fall into bed and have to figure out what’s going on with the pies and their relationship. This is a fun novel, with interesting characters that are fun to read. The story is a hoot and readers will love Gran and Celia.
