Book Review: ‘The Thursday Murder Club’ Is One Of The Best Novels Of The Year By Richard Osman

At Coopers Chase, a retirement village in Britain, four residents have formed The Thursday Murder Club where they go over old cases and try and solve them. Elizabeth, Ibrahim, Ron and Joyce (who is writing about the adventure in a journal as the story goes along). When a real life murder takes place, the group goes into over-drive competing with the police to solve the crime.

DCI Chris Hudson is in charge of the case and the group of four get constable Donna De Freitas assigned to the case (they really like her and friended her). And then another murder takes place and the four are giddy at having two cases now to work on. As they investigate the gang of four get the upper hand on the police (mostly thanks to Elizabeth who seems to have a mysterious past and lots of connections).

There are major twists and turns and the four leads plus the two police characters are just greatness. Author Richard Osman has written well-defined characters, that are so much fun to read. Filled with many LOL moments and brilliant writing this is a series to watch for years to come. And it makes me happy to see that there are more books coming.

You can pick up The Thursday Murder Club in stores on Tuesday, September 22nd from Pamela Dorman/Viking Books.
