Dahlia Newberry has finally left her worthless husband, and has moved to North Folk, on Long Island, to fix up her late Aunt Lil’s house to sell. Then she plans to move to Charleston to take a job at the end of the summer. When she gets to the house, she finds it’s in bad shape, and the handyman she was going to use has had a heart attack. She also finds a bucket list of items her aunt wants her to do while here, including finding a key to a safe deposit box, which will reveal a family secret. What she doesn’t count on is Noah Sterling, the hunky man who is living in her barn, who is a reality home renovation star. They have instant chemistry, even if he is ten years younger than her. They finally give in to passion, have hot sex (with some steamy scenes), and fall in love. Things are not easy for them they both have baggage, she has not told him about her daughter, and she is torn as to what to do with her pending job and deal with the shocking family secret she has learned. This is a great debut novel from author O’Brien, who hits all the right notes in this book. The two lead characters are fun to follow along with, and it’s heartwarming watching them fall in love. One of the best rom-coms of the year.
