Book Review: ‘The Stolen Letter: A Scottish Bookshop Mystery’ By Paige Shelton

Book five in the series finds Delaney Nichols back in Scotland after her marriage and honeymoon to Tom. As she’s getting to the bookstore the Cracked Spine, she works at, she runs into a woman who looks just like her. She has some books she wants to sell or give them. Her name is Mary Stewart and she claims she is Mary, Queen of Scots reincarnated. She is fascinated by this but soon learns the council wants to shut down the bookstore. They claim is is structurally unsound.

While they work on stopping this, Mary invites them to dinner. They all go and Mary and notice her husband Henry and a few other guests are uncomfortable. No one knows what to think of Mary. They soon learn that Henry is behind the store being shut down. Then the next morning Henry dies in a car explosion. And Delaney learns that he was trying to stop the bookstore from being shut down.

The police are investigating but that doesn’t stop Delaney from being on the case. She soon learns that there might be a secret note from Queen Elizabeth I to Mary, Queen of Scots to try and declare piece all those years ago. Delaney soon has a bunch of suspects and soon learns not everything is as seems with the bookstore being shut down and maybe her running into Mary was not coincidental.

Another really fun Scottish Bookstore Mystery from author Paige Shelton. These books are always a lot of fun with great characters, the setting of Scotland and the bookstore. If you’re a fan of this series, this one won’t disappoint.
