The year is 1894 and Captain Jim and Lady Diana are back in Bombay to help out her brother Adi, who is accused of murder. Things have changed a lot in the two years since they were last there. Her family has lost their fortune due to an economic downturn and the family is still shunned by some in their community because of Diana’s marriage. Adi had opened a business, along with a partner, who was found dead in Adi’s arms. He’s the prime suspect and Jim is determined to find the real killer before it’s too late for Adi. The more he digs, the more he learns not everything is on the up and up, finds his life in danger and learns the shocking truth about what happened. Author March leans heavyily into the culture of Bombay, which at times is hard to understand and follow, but the story is another good one and the series continues to get better with each novel.
