Book Review: ‘The Shadow Girls: A Natalie Lockhart Novel’ By Alice Blanchard

Burning Lake is second to Salem when it comes to witches and legends, and for Detective Natalie Lockhart, this isn’t a good thing. After the events of the last book, her best friend, and boss Luke is in a coma, a fellow detective is on the run for stealing evidence, and other crimes, her boyfriend Hunter wants her to quit her job and move to Denver, and a man has been killed. When a body is found at the local Halloween shop, Natalie begins an investigation, which leads to other deaths the man has committed, and to past crimes, and murders. It opens up a hornet’s nest of crimes, suspects, and long held secrets. And as Natalie finds more evidence, it becomes clear that something bigger is at play, and by the time she figures everything out, including old cases, she may not live to tell about it. Another solid novel in the series, which answers a lot of questions, and moves forward on a relationship four books in the making. This almost seems like it could be the final novel in the series, if so it’s a good send off. Here’s hoping for more stories with these characters.

You can pick up The Shadow Girls in stores on Tuesday, July 25th from Minotaur Books.
