Book Review: ‘The Second Murderer: A Phillip Marlowe Novel’ By Denise Mina

Phillip Marlowe has just solved a murder case, but finds the results unsettling. He thinks they got the wrong man. While contemplating this, he gets a mysterious phone call from a woman who might want to hire him. He just has to come to the Montgomery mansion, the family is a very wealthy bunch, and are none far and wide. He’s asked to find the 22-year-old daughter of Chadwick Montgomery, the leader of the family. Chrissie is the heir, and he is dying, so he wants her home. No one knows if she just left or was taken after her engagement party. Marlowe has an easy time finding her, but soon family secrets and dead bodies pile up, and Marlowe has a lot more on his plate. Never one to not solve a case, he goes digging and finds all sorts of answers, in this great new novel featuring the legendary character. Fans of gumshoe private eyes will eat this one up. It has all the classic noir that a novel like this should have. Hopefully more Marlowe novels will follow.
