The Babel family is off to South Africa, to a safari resort they own, for the wedding of Odelia Bable, the CEO of a very successful fashion empire, she took over the company after her husband died 10 years ago. She’s now engaged to Asher, a man much younger than she is. On the trip is the eldest son, Joshua, who is married, with a young baby and twins, Bailey (who works at the company, and her brother Sam and best friend Gwen. No one is crazy about this marriage and when Odelia informs the family she’s changing her will and they are mostly cut off, doesn’t go over well. There’s arguements with Joshua and Sam, and then the morning of the wedding, Odelia is found dead, Bailey and Gwen are missing and there are any number of suspects. As the story progresses, shocking secrets are revealed, a family betrayal and one other member of the family finds their life in danger. This is a soapy, twisty, well-written novel that you need a scorecard to follow along with. The twists come fast and don’t stop until the very end of the book. This is one of the best books of the year.
