Detective Marlett Kaplan is visiting her mother at the University of Georgia when she hears screams outside. Jay Kemp, a member of Kappa Phi Omicron, was hit be a car and killed. She’s the first one on scene and calls for backup. When they interview witnesses they say the same thing, the driver looked just like Jay. Kaplan is helping to work in the case, but is in hot water with a boss who doesn’t like her. She thinks someone at KPO is responsible, and they find Jay’s laptop scrubed. The more they investigate, things at the fraternity don’t seem right and soon Marlett is in trouble at work and at home. Someone lights her house on fire and she almost dies. But she will not give in and continues the investigation, against her bosses wishes. She soon figures out what’s going and in the process may bring down the fraternity as well. A solid police thriller, with plenty of twists to keep the reader engaged. A good debut novel.
