Mickey Haller, known as the Lincoln Lawyer, has left criminal defense law and is now doing civil law. His first big case is against Tidalwaiv Technologies, who have created an AI chatbox program for teens, named Clair, which allegedly caused 16-year-old Aaron Colton to kill his girlfriend, Rebecca, who was also 16, at their high school by shooting her. He got too close to the program, and named his avatar Wren. As Haller and his team investigate, he finds that the company failed to put in safeguards in the program. His key witness is found dead, and it throws his case off. He soon finds another witness, who is afraid to come forward. The lawyers and owner of the company keep trying to make the case go away with big payouts, but will not admit fault. Haller pulls out all the stops, gets in trouble with the judge, and is ready to try and get Wren on the witness stand if necessary. This is the 8th novel in the series, and it’s another page-turning legal thriller. From the opening of the case to the actual trial to the great supporting characters and shocking conclusion, fans will eat this one up.
