Eloise is single, has a close friend in Rachel, sells baked dog treats, inherited a nice apartment in New York, and lives a shut-in life. She doesn’t date, have many friends, and never leaves her comfort zone. She also takes in sick older dogs to give them a good rest of their lives. Rachel is getting married in Mexico City, and she is the maid-of-honor. It is custom to have a plus-one, and she goes to the list her friends have made for potential dates to such events. Along comes Agustín, a good-looking writer, who has landed a gig at the New Yorker, writing about his grandfather and his double life. He needs to interview with grandfather’s other son, but has not had not luck. He is going to the wedding, and Agustín is set up with Eloise, and she agrees to let him take her, not telling her the real reason for his going. He soon gets her out of her comfort zone, they fall in love, and at the wedding, she finds out what he did, and breaks up with him, and this could be the end of them. This is a well-written rom-com, bringing awareness to social anxiety and the plight of older, sick dogs. The two main characters are fun to watch falling in love, and you root for them to be together.
