The year is 1950 and in Paris, France, Claire, Margot and Gina spend their time together dreaming of what could be and looking at Dior dresses in the window, something Claire has always wanted to own. Five years later, Claire is working at her family’s restaurant, her dream is to be a Michelin-starred chef one day. She has barely talked with her two friends in five years. Then Gina shows up, her engagement ended and she’s starting over in Paris. When Claire’s father announces he has sold the restaurant, the man buying it is a man that Claire knows from her past. Madame Vaughn, who lives above the restaurant has to leave for a year and offers her beautiful apartment to Claire, and Gina moves in as well. On top of that, she has a Dior dress on order that she tells Claire she can have. When they go to the fitting, they find Margot working there under a different name. The ladies finally reunite, learn about each other’s lives, and the dress ends up playing a big part of their lives as they finally figure out who they are and what they want. This is a well-written character-driven novel about friendship, and you get invested in following their lives. A perfect end of summer read.
