It’s the early 50’s at Oxford University, and classes are in full session. When the librarian, Mr. Tolliver, drops dead of a heart attack, nothing is said, but it is believed he was poisoned. It turns out he was an agent for the service and was investigation a Soviet Agent, sending secrets. When Rook, a government agent, asks Sidney Braithwaite, a veteran of WWII, and Gin to investigate when he left off, they take on the assignment. There are a number of potential suspects, and the two have a love/hate relationship with each other. There is an attraction developing between the two, and they end up working very well with each other, narrowing down suspects and finally finding the person they are after. It leads to a shocking showdown and a twist ending, setting up the next novel. This is a fun debut novel, with two interesting, well-written characters, and a story with twists and turns. I am ready for the new adventure of these two.
