A 100 year old curse on an island off of North Carolina, with witches, highlights this great debut novel from author Paige Crutcher. If you’re a fan of magical, mysterious novels featuring witches, this is perfect for you. Persephone May has always been a loner, who knew she had some kind of magical powers. Since she was little she was shifted aroung from foster home to foster home and had the power to hurt people with her eyes. But then she’s invited to the island and finds out about her past and her family. It turns out she’s part of a long line of witches and that a curse was placed and she may be the key to ending it. There’s two forces at work here, the cousins she didn’t know about and two sister witches. Lots of magical things happen, there are betrayals and twists and turns and just who is good and who is bad will need to be sorted out, for this curse to be ended once and for all. And it will all fall to Persephone, can she control and learn to use her power and just who can she trust?

You can pick up The Orphan Witch in stores on Tuesday, September 28th from St. Martin’s Griffin.
