He was thrown in prison, and told Carrie to forget about him; the marriage was never legal. Twelve years later, in 2022, Carrie is married to Robin, they live in Devon, England, and have twins. Ready to go back to her work as a doctor, she is going to Sweden to meet with a surgeon and get her career back on track. While booking rentals, she comes across a cabin owned by Johan, who was let out of prison years ago and never contacted or told Carrie he was out. When she runs into him, she demands answers, but he says very little. When Carrie starts digging for answers, she finally learns the shocking truth about what happened twelve years ago, and then learns an even more shocking secret that will change everything. This is a great novel. The story, the characters, and the jaw-dropping twists you never see coming. This is one of the best novels of the year. A perfect Memorial Day beach read.
